Johnny Ray Tomas Sr.

July 12, 1959 - September 5, 2013

Johnny Ray Tomas was born on July 12, 1959 in Gonzales, Texas to Raymond & Adela (Dolezal) Tomas. He graduated from Gonzales High School and was united in marriage to Kathy Gipson on October 8, 1977 at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales. Their union was blessed with three sons, Johnny, David and Matt. Johnny had worked for Key Energy for many years and was currently employed with Lynco Oilfield Services as their shop foreman. He was an active member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight and a member of the Giddings Knights of Columbus Council 8085. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.

He passed away suddenly the evening of Thursday, September 5, 2013 at his home in Giddings.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Adela Tomas and two brothers, David Tomas and Ronnie Tomas.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Tomas of Giddings; three sons, Johnny Tomas Jr. & his wife, Natalie of Katy, David Tomas of Giddings and Matt Tomas & his fiancée, Emily Campos of Giddings; three grandchildren, Peyton Tomas of Giddings, Addison Tomas of Giddings and Mason Tomas of Katy; two sisters, Mary Ann Rinn & her husband, Warren of Cameron and Dianah Pinney of Ohio; brother, Daniel Tomas & his wife, Mary of Gonzales; sisters-in-law, Donnia Yow & her husband, Jimmy of Centerville, Linda McCoy of Giddings and Kay Neuse of Gonzales; brothers-in-law, Randy Gipson & his wife, Judy of Bryan and Terry Gipson of Freeport, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings with Father James Olnhausen officiating. Burial followed in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Pin Oak, Texas.

A Rosary was recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

Pallbearers were: Randy Jackson, Leslie Tharp, Vince McCoy, Tyler McCoy, Randy McCoy and Chris Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Yow, Russell Cleghorn, Harlan McLamore, Brian Moerbe, Terry Gipson and Randy Gipson.

Memorials may be made to the Lee County Cancer Resource Center or the American Cancer Society.
