Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for 2013

Kristen Boettcher Kristen Boettcher Kristen Boettcher, Madison Bexley and Corey Strain, all students in LISD, were the recipients of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for the 2013 summer session. These students were selected for their potential as future leaders.

Sophomore and junior students are eligible to apply for the prestigious camp scholarships beginning in the fall and selections are finalized by the end of February. RYLA in the Rough is a week-long residential camp held at McKinney Roughs Nature Park near Bastrop, Texas. The camp stresses leadership, life skills, teamwork, tolerance and ethics. Ninety-three campers were registered for the 2013 camp session with a support staff of 39 counselors, 6 Rotarian directors, a team of volunteer nurses and one area physician on call. Over 230 Rotarians from across Rotary District 5870 volunteered by coordinating the camper selections, transporting campers to and from McKinney Roughs, and by assisting in the preparation and serving of meals during the week.

I am so proud of these three outstanding student leaders and all of our Interact students who work hard to organize service projects to benefit our Lexington community.
