The Delta Kappa Gamma Society Has August Meeting

Key Media Award Honoring The Lexington Leader

The Gamma Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013, in the Fellowship Hall of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg, Texas, with 63 members in attendance.

Barbara Truitt read the Mission Statement, and Myra Demel led the pledges. Peggy Ueckert led members in the Collect, and Letha Dillion gave the meditation. Beth Franke, along with Heather Smith and Linda Pinkerton, conducted a Service of Remembrance for Maggie Selman and Linda Cavender.

Bellville members Barbara Koy, Mary Ann Novosad, and Earnestine Seals presented the program, entitled “Ready, Set, Go—Navigating Through Today’s Travel.” Cheryl Pritchett led members in singing “Oh, My Aunt Came Back.”

President Mary Keienburg presided over the business meeting. Minutes from the April Meeting and the Summer Planning Meeting were approved as printed by Carolyn Golan. Linda Pinkerton read the Treasurer’s report, which was approved. Cheryl Pritchett read several pieces of correspondence. New chapter committee lists were made available to members. Committee reports included: Achievement awards to members who attended the State Convention by Carole Fry, Program Committee report by Lou Pruett, Finance report by Evelyn Turlington, Legislative report by Lou Pruett, and Membership report by Jeanell Dallmeyer. New member orientation will be at 6:30 p.m. on October 15 at Los Cabos Restaurant in Brenham, and initiation will be held at the November regular meeting. Members accepted the Adam’s Angels Ministries as their project for the year.

President Keienburg reported on the 2013 State Convention. Eighteen Gamma Omega members attended. Among the many honors received by Gamma Omega were the Annie Award for outstanding programs, the PACE Award-Honorable Mention, The Exemplary Yearbook Award, the Early Bird Yearbook Award, the Five Star Newsletter Award, and Certified Chapter Website recognition. The chapter also received contribution recognitions to the Eula Lee Carter Memorial Fund, ASTEF Projects, ASTEF Leadership, and ASTEF Scholarship Fund. Carolyn Golan received a Key Media Award honoring The Bellville Times, and Trudy Holland received a Key Media Award honoring The Lexington Leader.

Joyce Knolle won the Perfect Attendance Prize donated by Sharon Spiess, and Barbara Koy won the Door Prize donated by Joyce Knolle. Bellvile members were thanked for serving as hostesses. The meeting adjourned, followed by the singing of “The Delta Kappa Gamma Song.” The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on October 5 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg with the Brenham members serving as hostesses.

Members attending from Lee County were Denise Brademan, Thelma Hinze,Trudy Holland, and Jennifer Mohr.
