Eagles Travel to Crockett
Lexington fans will fire up their GPS’s this week to motor into East Texas to Crockett for the opening game of the 2013 football season. The 120-plus mile trip will be the first game for new Head Coach Kirk Muhl. The Eagles are young this season, just as Crockett was young last season. The Bulldogs boast experienced receivers in Carlton Shirley and Darius Barber. Running back Alphonse Phillips rushed for over 1,000 yards last year as a freshman. The two receivers are in the 6’3” 190 lb. range. The problem is, who will be able to throw the ball to them? A possible answer is Case Robinson.
The Bulldogs are still young, but possess some excellent skill position players. The Eagles’ pressure defense will make it difficult for the Dogs to run any type of deep, sophisticated pass patterns. The Eagles must do a better job of covering the receivers than they did in the Marlin scrimmage if they are to be successful.
How to get to Bulldog Stadium: go out 696 East to Texas 21, turn left. Stay on Texas 21 to Crockett. Turn right on Loop 304 and follow it until you see the stadium on your left. Stop and enjoy the humongous Bucee’s in Madisonville, coming and going.
