Momentum and excitement were in full swing at Lexington Schools as students returned for the 2013-2014 school year. In making my rounds on the first day of school, I was thrilled to see the fresh faces of almost one thousand students waiting for the opening bell to ring. I recalled my own bittersweet emotions when my own five children began kindergarten many years ago, as I spoke with some of our kindergarten parents. Those sweet parents’ hearts were filled with emotion as they entrusted their babies to our care. I assured those parents that our loving and caring teachers accept the responsibility entrusted to them with eagerness and a deep sense of purpose. There is no doubt in my mind that their child could not be in better hands than those of our creative, compassionate, and hardworking kindergarten teachers. We recognize we have a great responsibility to all of the young people of Lexington and to our entire Lexington community. We are also counting on you—parents and families in the district, senior citizens, business owners, tax payers, and civic leaders – to join us in what we believe is a shared responsibility to the children of Lexington and to our future.
