Oliver “Ollie” Barker
Oliver “Ollie” Barker, of Lexington, passed away at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange at the age of 59 on Thursday, August 22, 2013. He was born on November 10, 1953 to Erma Lee (Taylor) and Jessie A. Barker in Lee County, Texas.
Ollie was a graduate of Lexington High School and worked much of his adult life at Elgin Butler Brick. When he left the brickyard, he became a handyman, doing various odd jobs, from fixing hog traps to repairing lawnmowers, for family members and friends throughout Lee and Milam Counties.
Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother and one grandchild. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Barker and her children, Hannah and Allyson; his brother Floyd Barker and wife Sharon of Rockdale; sisters Betty Lou Crawford of Rockdale and Patricia Gray of Rockdale; and his special friend, Gloria A. Goehl of Lexington.
Ollie loved animals, his garden, helping people, entertaining children with rides on his lawnmower or having water balloon fights. A memorial service in his honor is pending at this time.
