Pines and Prairies Land Trust Applies for Nationally Recognized Accreditation
Pines and Prairies Land Trust (PPLT) was incorporated in 2001 as a 501(c)3, non-profit organization formed to protect natural and cultural resources and promote sustainable agriculture through education and preservation of open space in Central Texas. PPLT does this by holding conservation easements on significant private property and by owning land.
PPLT’s Board of Directors has always believed that the Land Trust must conform to the most rigorous standards in all its undertakings, not only to ensure the permanence of its work, but also in order to preserve the trust of its supporters and donors. PPLT is a member of the Land Trust Alliance (LTA), the national umbrella group of land trusts, and has adopted LTA’s Standards and Practices.
Pines and Prairies Land Trust is now applying for accreditation with the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. The Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, will conduct a lengthy, in-depth review of PPLT’s policies, programs and practices to ensure that PPLT is adhering to the LTA’s strict national standards for conducting the complex and important work of preserving significant open space in perpetuity.
The Accreditation Commission requires PPLT to invite public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications.
Comments must relate to how Pines and Prairies Land Trust complies with national quality standards, both ethically and technically in its business transactions and its day to day operations, as related to LTA’s indicator practices.
