Lady Eagles Fall to Brentwood Academy

by Mike Organ

The Lady Eagles opened the 2013 volleyball season with one of the toughest opponents in Central Texas. The Brentwood Academy has a sophomore middle blocker that has verbally committed to the University of Texas, the defending national champions.

Lexington did not fare well in the opening game as they were intimidated by the 6’3” girl in the middle of the net. She did nothing but enhance the intimidation factor by blocking a couple of Lexington kill attempts early in the game. Coach Mel Salazar said, “Since we were starting five sophomores, they were unsure of themselves on the court, and they failed to communicate like they had been practicing. By the third game, the Lady Eagles were doing the things they had been coached. The girls were making the transition to the speed of the game. I am pleased with the improvement the girls have made. We are playing people who are better than we are, but it will only make us better when district play arrives. Madison Bexley, Karsen Ross, and Meghann Wrinkle have been providing excellent leadership,” she concluded.
