Eagles to Scrimmage Caldwell Friday
The Eagles will travel to Caldwell Friday evening. The JV will start at 6:00 with the Varsity to start about 7:15. The Eagles will test their training against the Hornets. The Eagles have worked hard getting to know the revamped coaching staff and to renew what will be expected of them as the season progresses. Coach Muhl said this is the best team chemistry he has seen. The players are in it for the team, not for themselves. “We have a 10 or 12 man receiving corps. All are skilled in catching passes, so the rotation of receivers will not be able to tip off plays.”
The first scrimmage of the year is used by coaches to see if their evaluation of their personnel is accurate. They also get to see their charges work against unfamiliar opponents. Both teams will be under the direction of new head coaches.
Lexington will be under the leadership of Kirk Muhl, who has been an assistant at Eagleland for the last 13 years. Caldwell will be under the tutelage of Bobby Jack Goforth, a Hornet alumni, who has been coaching in San Antonio for the last few years.
Lexington returns two offensive starters and three defensive starters from last season’s 9-3 team. Caldwell returns five offensive and five defensive starters from last year’s 1-8 team. The Hornets are coming off two back-to-back one-win seasons. Caldwell is looking for the experience gained last season to help them have a better season this year. Things in Caldwell are pretty much in disarray. Goforth has a big job trying to re-unify the players to a common goal.
