Laverne Margaret Steglich Nitsche Falke

July 8, 1922 - August 11, 2013

Laverne Margaret Steglich Nitsche Falke was born on July 8, 1922 at Serbin, Texas to Emil & Esther (Driessner) Steglich. She was baptized into the Christian faith on July 23, 1922 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas by Rev. Herman Schmidt and was confirmed on April 5, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church also by Rev. Herman Schmidt. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:5 “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

Laverne was united in marriage to Robert Nitsche on July 17, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. Herman Schmidt. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, R.J., Kenneth and Gary. Following the death of Robert in 1983, Laverne married Herbert Falke on October 24, 1987 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the L.W.M.L. Laverne was also a member of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society and the Lee County German Society.

She passed away the morning of Sunday, August 11, 2013 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Robert Nitsche and Herbert Falke; daughter-in-law, Linda Nitsche; grandson, Jamin Nitsche; sister, Lorraine Zoch and two brothers, Milton Steglich and Edward Steglich.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, R.J. & Ruth Nitsche of Giddings, Kenneth & Carolyn Nitsche of Fedor and Gary & Kathie Nitsche of La Grange; grandchildren, Stephanie & John Duffy of New Jersey, Robert & Robin Nitsche of Round Rock, Johnathan & Marita Nitsche of Georgetown, Jeffery Nitsche of Austin, Kimberly & Zach Burdine of Frisco, Kaci & David Paden of Georgetown and Jennifer & Bill Simon of Georgetown; ten great grandchildren, Ashley & Nick Nitsche both of Round Rock, Johnathan Nitsche, Valeria, Maria and Grecia all of Georgetown, Patrick & Zachary Simon both of Georgetown, Sandy Duffy of New Jersey and Asher Burdine of Frisco; three stepsons, Jerry & Pauline Falke of Fedor, Jimmy & Sandra Falke of Fedor and Gary & Barbara Falke of Dime Box; six step grandchildren, Dustin & Lauren Gersch of Pflugerville, Ryan Gersch of Houston, Chris & Karah Falke of Fedor, Russell & Sydney Falke of Fedor, Karsten Falke of Pierce and Melinda & Willie McGlaun of Buda; three step great grandchildren, Lorelei Howard & Kodie Falke both of Fedor and Colton McGlaun of Buda; sister and brother-in-law, Helen & Glen Whitley of Smithville; sister-in-law, Annie Fick of Pinehurst, as well as several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Keith Aschenbeck officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Giddings Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Nitsche family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Nitsche, Johnathan Nitsche, Jeffery Nitsche, Bill Simon, Chris Falke, Zach Burdine, David Paden and John Duffy.
