Summer Reading Parties and Winners

The Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center, would like to thank everyone who participated and helped with the wonderful success of Summer Reading 2013! The Library registered 242 children for the Collaborative Summer Library Program Summer Reading for 2013 entitled “DIG INTO READING”. Breaking down the numbers, it amounted to 61 for ages 3 and 4, 51 for ages 5 to 6, 81 for ages 7 to 9, and 49 for ages 10 to 12. There were 280 in attendance for the first week’s program. In the 3-4 age group for that first week, there were 61 children and 19 parents/ guardians. In the 5-6 age group there were 36 children and 20 adults, 76 children ages 7-9 with their 18 parents/guardians, and 34 children ages 10-12 with their 16 parents/guardians attended their particular “first week” programs.

This year, as last year, Giddings Public Library’s Summer Reading 2013 Program enjoyed the wonderful participation of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus as they provided an additional reading level prize in the form of a circus pass for those Summer Reading 2013 registrars that reached that particular level. In conjunction with their participation, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey provided a special Bonzo Crunch Clown Show presentation held in Giddings on June 21, 2013 at Giddings Public Library for any and all to attend. Bonzo Crunch the Clown put on a great show for the crowd of about 95 “+” and also boosted our Summer Reading!

Children ages 3-6 years celebrated the end of Summer Reading Program on July 24, at Giddings’ Simmang Park. There were 35 in the age group present with 22 adults/guardians. The children enjoyed splashing water fun.

With the weather’s cooperation and the City of Giddings’ kind generosity, the end of Summer Reading celebration for the 7-12 year olds was held at the Giddings City Pool on July 25th. Attending this party were 42 children, accompanied by 38 adults/ guardians.

The Masons of J.D. Giddings Lodge # 280 provided four bikes, two for ages 3-6, and two for ages 7-12, as prizes for readers who completed and read beyond their reading log requirements by July 18th. Those children’s names were entered for a drawing for the bikes, and were drawn and named at the “End of Summer Reading” parties. The winners are as follows: Angela Garcia, Sebastian Symm, Arianna Packheiser, and Jay Cannon.

The turnout of children, along with their parents/guardians, the great support of our very faithful volunteers Jaquelinne Arteaga, Sandra Awad, Ellie Doerfler, Alexa Gon, Monica Muniz, Colette McClure, Victoria Davis, Thomas Davis, Sara Matejcek, Haileigh Blansit, Jasmine Luna, Brissa Luna, Anna Marie Clawson, the wonderful contributed talents of our guest presenters, plus the tremendous support of various businesses within Giddings and Lee County, has made a loud statement to Giddings Public Library that this Summer Reading program is to be a staple as part of Giddings’ and Lee County’s summer.
