Giddings Non District
Giddings, coming off a complete downfall the last half of the season, has no cupcakes on their schedule in preparing for the 2013 district competition. The Buffs start off with Lampasas scrimmage, Bryan Rudder scrimmage, and then into the heavy hitters of Liberty Hill, Wimberley, and Bellville. After an open date, they will try to get ready for a tough district with a match against Caldwell, which was 1-9 last season and changed coaches again.
Lampasas is in one of 3A’s toughest districts in the state with Brownwood, Burnet, Gatesville, Liberty Hill, and Llano. The Badgers are picked to finish last in the toughie. Lampasas has a new coach again, this one has a history of turning around moribund programs. The Buffs should have a good opening showing.
Bryan Rudder is in a stout 4A district, but picked to finish eighth out of a nine team field. They have good talent, a little inexperienced, but competitive in the district with perennial power Brenham. This should be a good learning competition for the Buffs and get them ready for their non-district punishment.
Liberty Hill is picked to make the playoffs and are perennially tough. They have 28 lettermen returning from the 2012 team that did not make the playoffs. If the Buffs play like they did at the beginning of last season, they will have success, but if they play like the last part, the heat could begin early.
Wimberley and Bellville, the next two teams on the schedule are ranked in the top 15 in the state and will present a tremendous challenge for the Buffs. Giddings was up to the challenge last season, but the roles are reversed this season.
Columbus is the next problem for the Buffs. Giddings should handle this problem with little difficulty. Columbus has a new coach stepping down from 4A Galveston Ball but familiar with the area since leading LaGrange to a state championship a few years back.
After an open date, Giddings will host Caldwell for homecoming. You know they pick the weakest opponent on the schedule for homecoming, so you figure out the outcome of this game.
The Buffs should enter district play with a 3-2 record and mad enough to prove everyone last season was an exception.
