Man Drowns in Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop

This release is being issued in reference to the drowning of an adult male in the Colorado River within Fisherman’s Park located within the City of Bastrop.

The Bastrop Police Department is actively investigating a drowning that occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on July 13th 2013. At about this time, Bastrop Police officers were dispatched to the Colorado River in Fisherman’s Park to assist in the location of an adult male that had disappeared under the water. At about 4:40PM the Bastrop Fire Department located the adult male deceased in the river. Upon initial investigation, the adult male and his girlfriend were floating down the Colorado River with a swimming tube. The male was hanging onto the tube’s side when he suddenly went under the water. The male drowned moments later. A contributing factor in this drowning may have been alcohol consumption. The Bastrop Police Department is not releasing the name of the deceased at this time to allow for full family notification.
