Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer Rev. DaveFischer I read a lot of books. Lately, I have been trying to catch up by giving my attention to those volumes loaned, or given, to me by friends in Lexington.

One of those tomes is by Mitch Albom and the preface contains a haunting line. “The dead sit at our tables long after they are gone.”

My first response was “Ain’t it the truth!” But then I had to ponder if that was a good thing, or a bad thing.

I think it depends on what you do with the ghosts. If they haunt you, they are a very unwelcome guest.

However, if they inspire you, their existence may be the greatest non-living gift you will ever receive.

At my personal table, some of them are frowning and I know that they disapprove of what I am doing and are sad that I have not forsaken bad habits and poor behavior.

But, sometimes they smile and nod and I understand that I am behaving as the person they always believed I could be. At such moments, they are proud of me and I am, too.

One more thing, there are some empty chairs at the table. Those places represent people who were not helpful when they were alive and needed to be banished from my memory so I could live.

So, who’s sitting at your table? Are they happy with you? Are they disappointed?

Most important. Have you found the courage to stop setting a place for those who continue to do you damage?

Spring is supposed to be the time for housecleaning, but summer is not too late for such an important task.

It’s just a thought.
