Lee Co. Major All- Stars in Finals

by Mike Organ

The Lee Co. Major League All- Stars played Washington County Monday night, July 1, for the District 13 Championship. LC lost to Washington County 8-1. The young Lee Countians fell behind three runs in the first inning and never recovered. Washington kept the pressure on and moved the lead to 7-0 before LC could push a run across.

To reach the finals, the LC crew did it the hard way in the double elimination tourney. LC lost to Bellville 7-4 Monday night, June 24th. Then LC went on a winning spree the rest of the week with their backs to the wall. Thursday they defeated Columbus 10-8. Friday they defeated Sealy 14-7, and Saturday they defeated Grimes County 9-5 to set up the championship game in Bellville.

The tourney is a double elimination format, so the LC team would have had to defeat Washington County again on Tuesday night, July 2, since Washington Co. got to the finals without a defeat.

The other LC teams did not fair as well as the 12-yaear olds. The 9 & 10 Minor all-stars went out in four games. They defeated LaGrange 11-10 on Monday night, June 24. Tuesday they defeated Twin Cities 15-5. Thursday night Bellville waxed them 25-0, and Friday night LaGrange won a rematch 15-4, as the youngsters ended their season.

The 10 year olds lost out on Wednesday night. They lost to Washington County 23-0, defeated Bellville 12-2, and lost to Burleson County 10-9 to end their season.

The LC 13 year old all-stars lost to Washington on Monday night, June 24, defeated Waller 10-9 on Tuesday, and finished up with a 21-8 loss to Sealy on Wednesday.
