Gertrude Mathilda Mersiovsky

August 18, 1920 - July 1, 2013

Funeral services for Gertrude Mersiovsky, 92 of Giddings, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Keith Aschenbeck & Rev. Dennis Tegtmeier officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

Mrs. Mersiovsky passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, July 1, 2013 at her home in Giddings.

Gertrude Mathilda (Gruetzner) Mersiovsky was born on August 18, 1920 in Loebau, Texas to Henry John & Ella Alinda (Iselt) Gruetzner. She was baptized on August 29, 1920 at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau by Rev. Charles A. Durow and confirmed on April 2, 1934 at Christ Lutheran Church by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff. Gertrude was united in marriage to Monroe Louis Mersiovsky on October 25, 1942 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas by Rev. Herman Schmidt. She and Monroe were married over 66 years when he preceded her in death on February 19, 2009. Gertrude was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings and was retired from Bluebonnet Electric in Giddings where she had been employed as a custodian. She was a hardworking and loving homemaker who enjoyed gardening and taking care of her yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Ella Gruetzner; her husband, Monroe Mersiovsky; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul & Adeline Gruetzner, Gilbert & Inez Gruetzner and Marvin & Elsie Gruetzner; sister-in-law, Frances Gruetzner and two brothers-in-law, Harry Mersiovsky & his wife, Margaret and Milton Mersiovsky.

Gertrude is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Sylvin & Ruth Mersiovsky of Giddings and Calvin & Gale Mersiovsky of La Grange; her daughter and sonin law, Emma & Bill Matejcek of Giddings; six grandchildren, Stephen & Heather Mersiovsky of Giddings, Rodney & Gina Mersiovsky of Giddings, Jason & Sondy Mersiovsky of Giddings, Crystal & Mark Landry of La Grange, John & Kim Matejcek of Giddings and Jeremy & Ashley Matejcek of Cranberry, PA; sixteen great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; brother, Louis Gruetzner of Giddings; sister-in-law, Elaine Mersiovsky of Serbin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Mersiovsky, Rodney Mersiovsky, Jason Mersiovsky, John Matejcek, Jeremy Matejcek and Mark Landry.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, Texas, the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Ladies Aid in Warda, Texas or to the charity of one’s choice.
