Local Riders Earn High Marks at International Festival & Competition

The Texas Tornadoes of Lee County competed June 18-22, 2013 in Lindale, Texas at the Super Ride XI International Festival of the Equestrian Arts. Competing this year were 50 plus teams from Texas and surrounding states. The Texas Tornadoes left Lee County with 29 riders, 18 under 17 years of age. The team competed in 13 competitions, Color Guard, Quads, Rodeo, Theme and the National Competition Division.

One of our greatest accomplishments this week was seeing Johnny O’Bier of Lee County, age 63, who only started riding 4 years ago, who also is one of our challenge riders, win National Championship in Color Guard. Johnny competed against 5 other teams. Johnny also won first in the Challenge Riders Division. His team members were Brian and Tim Griffith.

Johnny also placed 3rd in the 40 and Over Quad. The Texas Tornadoes Team members are so proud they got to share this time with Johnny, Brian and Timmy.

The Texas Tornadoes brought home two Reserve Championships: one in the Rodeo Division, and one in the Adult Youth Quad Theme. The Texas Tornadoes also placed 5th in the overall National Competition.
