Mary Ellen Owens
Mary Ellen (Lampley) Owens was born on February 11, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee to William Robert Lampley Sr. and Audrey (Hoye) Lampley. She was united in marriage to Winford R. “W.R.” Owens on January 15, 1944 in Hernandez, Mississippi. W.R. & Mary owned and operated the Wimpey’s Fun Show carnival for many years. Mary enjoyed taking care of her dogs and shopping at dollar stores and yard sales. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lampley Sr. and Audrey Lampley Matlock; her husband, W.R. Owens and two brothers, William “Bob” Lampley Jr. and Jack Lampley.
Mary is survived by her children, Winford “Maurice” & Neva Owens of Conroe, Phillip “Rudy” Owens of Lexington and Mary “Elaine” & Bobby Stevens of Port O’Conner; her step-son, Phillip & Gloria Richardson of Lexington; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Aubrey Lampley of Arkansas and J.D. Lampley of Mississippi; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hannon of Tennessee, Pat Lampley of Tennessee and Marjorie Lampley of Mississippi, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mary Owens, 86, of Lexington were Monday, June 17, 2013 at Tanglewood Baptist Church in Tanglewood, Texas, with Pastor David Atwood officiating. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood.
Mrs. Owens passed away the morning of Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.
