Evelyn Alvina Mitschke
Evelyn Alvina Becker Mitschke was born on July 3, 1924 in Bartlett, Texas to Albert & Alvina (Mitschke) Becker. She was baptized on July 25, 1924 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett and confirmed on June 5, 1938 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, Texas by Rev. A.O. Kaltwasser. Her confirmation verse was Isiah 54:10 “ For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee”.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Otto E. Mitschke on September 5, 1942 at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau, Texas by Rev. Herbert Hartfield. Their union was blessed with three children, Doris, Larry & James. She was employed as a sales clerk with Bluebonnet Pharmacy in Giddings for many years. Evelyn was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings and enjoyed reading, camping, hunting, fishing, cooking and baking. Throughout her lifetime, Evelyn probably baked a cake or a batch of cookies for nearly everyone in town.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto; her son, Larry Mitschke; her grandson, Darrel Meyer; two sisters, Lillie Leitko and Ruby Nimtz Koslan and two half-sisters, Esther Taylor and Elsie Baack.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Doris & Otis Meyer of Giddings; her son and daughter-in-law, James “Jim” & Lory Mitschke of Giddings; her daughter-in-law, Janice Mitschke of Giddings; nine grandchildren, Galen Meyer of Giddings, Robyn Roberts & her husband, Alan of Giddings, Randal “Randy” Mitschke of North Dakota, Rachel Wade & her husband, Brian of Giddings, Rhonda Mitschke of Giddings, Monica Spiller & her husband, Willie of Bastrop, Nicole Stobbs & her husband, Kevin of College Station, Justin Mitschke of College Station and Vanessa Mitschke of Giddings; eight great grandchildren, Jennifer Roberts of College Station, Allyson Roberts of College Station, Summer Korzekwa of Giddings, Autumn Korzekwa of Giddings, Josh Spiller of Bastrop, Taylor Spiller of Bastrop, Nathan Spiller of Bastrop and Landon Stobbs of College Station, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Steven Lehmann, Richard Keating, Mike Thompson, Alan Dale Leitko, Kevin Stobbs and Gary Zwernemann.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating.
Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.
