Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer

There has never been a time when Fatherhood was under so much attack.

Television shows and movies regularly present dad as a doofus, a bumbling idiot who knows nothing and can do little.

It is probably no wonder, then, that so many young men are running away from this responsibility.

The poster child for this kind of dereliction of duty must be the New York City youth who bragged that he had fathered five children, none of whom he intended to care for.

Enough! No more space for these n’er do wells.

Here’s to all the dads, the real fathers in this land, who get up every day and go to work, often at a job they don’t really like, in order to support their families.

Congratulations to them as they love their children’s mothers and coach little league and toss their beloved daughters in the air while praising them with the words that make a princess.

You are the bedrock of this nation. And our hats are off to you and our hearts are filled with appreciation.

Father’s Day, 2013, you know who deserves it. As for the rest, I hope you wake up and see just what you are missing.

Rev. David Fischer is the Pastor at First Christian Church in Lexington
