The state softball tourney is over with some familiar names winning the gold medal. Weimar won their first gold medal in Class A, after winning three championships in 2A. The community lives and breathes baseball and softball.
Nearby LaGrange was also in the state tourney, coached by ex-Lexington coach Art Behren and assisted by ex-Lady Eagle Kadie Dodd. They lost in the first round, Thursday, to Mineola. A grand slam in the top of the first inning put LG down and they were never able to recover. Mineola then lost to Lufkin Hudson 12-9 in the final. LG players got themselves a bronze medal for finishing third in the state. Not a bad finish to the season.
An apology to Oscar Sauceda for leaving him out of the senior write up last week. I knew I would forget someone, but not somebody like Oscar who made so many tough plays for the Eagles last season.
With Jason Holcomb going to Sealy, how many assistants will go with him? The Lexington coaching staff will have a completely different look next season.
In talking to a school board member, I was given me the proper answer concerning Coach Holcomb’s resignation. He said, “We have a special meeting Wednesday night. I expect to see a letter of resignation to be considered and then a recommendation on procedures to take care of the opening.” This is the proper answer I should have been given.
