Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer

When I was a child, I had no understanding of a most famous date, D-Day, 1945.

Later, I studied it in history as something that happened to someone else.

Then, I met Henry and he told me how it was. “There we were,” he said, “crowded into that LCVP waiting for it to reach the beach. All around me were scared young men. Some were crying, some were praying, a few threw up and some even wet themselves.

In the distance, we could hear the guns waiting for us.

There was no mistaking the danger or the duty. At the time, I had no way of knowing that I would never see most of my friends alive again.”

Now, I am keenly aware of the price that was paid so that you and I could salute that “Grand Old Flag” on this day, D-Day, 2013.

Maybe it would help if the rest of us recognized it as D-Day, “Decision Day” when once more we would decide if we had the courage to defend our freedoms as they did, “once upon a time” when it was all for real.

It’s Just A Thought . . .
