Lexington Police Make Drug Bust
Chief Clarence Yarbrough was dispatched to Herk’s Store on Friday, May 24, at about 5:05 p.m. regarding a suspicious person. Upon arrival, Chief Yarbrough made contact with the suspect, identified as Derrek Lee Sims. Sims was interviewed and searched per department protocol for officer safety. The search revealed that Sims had several illegal substances on his body, including powder cocaine and numerous pills of illegal prescription medication.
Sims was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine, a state jail felony; Possession of a Controlled Substance – Vicodine, another felony; and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Xanax, a state jail felony offense.
Sims was transported to the Lee County Law Enforcement Center, where he was booked in on the three felony drug charges.
