Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer

Not too long ago I visited with one of our veterans. It was a good conversation, but in many ways it made me sad.

One of the things he spoke about was the lack of respect for veterans by so many people.

“They want us to protect them. They want us to fight for their freedom, but then, when we return, they don’t want to hear about it. They want to distance themselves from the pain and the heartache and the bloodshed that goes with war. We are left alone with our hurts, except when we speak with other veterans.”

I, the preacher, was speechless. His truth was too true, the rightness of his remarks too correct for any glib or easy reply.

“I’m sorry for your pain”, was the best I could do.

But, I can write to you today and give you a heads up. Don’t let another Memorial Day pass without showing in a tangible way your appreciation for all the veterans who have made possible our freedom. They deserve the respect and honor of a grateful nation.
