The ability to compete at the highest level in Class 2A has changed in the last 15 years. Now athletes cannot have an “off season” where they lounge around. They must compete or be working on skills and strengths to improve in the sports they wish to participate, if they want to excel.

Coaches now require athletes to work in strength and conditioning programs all year long if they expect to have a successful season. Most sports performances can be enhanced with some type of strength training, be it football, basketball, baseball, or track. Even golf and tennis performances are improved with specialized weight training and conditioning.

Lexington coaches have done an excellent job of selling their off season program to all the athletes. Most of the male athletes are in the weight room on a regular basis.

The female athletes are beginning to see the need for concentrated weight programs for their sports also. A strong, well conditioned athlete, male or female, will prevail over a ‘natural’ in today’s sports.
