2012-2013 Lexington Sports
The school sports year is now over for Lexington. It was a very successful year for the Green and Gold. The football team advanced three weeks into the playoffs. The volleyball team was one win away from the Regional Tourney. The boys’ basketball team was headed to the playoffs until injuries depleted the team and limited performance. The girls’ basketball team was much improved and played a lot better than in seasons past.
Springtime saw Lexington teams play well. The softball team competed in one of the toughest districts in the state and finished third. After making the playoffs, their first round competition was only the defending state softball champion.
The baseball team played most teams close. The propensity for having one bad inning per game hurt the Eagles in several district games.
The track teams did not have the numbers participating as in previous years, but the athletes did compete well. Lexington had a nice contingent at the Regional Meet in Stephenville.
The tennis duo of Mackenzie Brown and Eriq Mitchell breezed through district in mixed doubles. They had tougher competition in the Regional Meet, but won all their matches to make it to the state tourney. At state, they won their first match over Ingram to make it to the semi-finals. In the semis, they won the first set, but lost the match, two sets to one. They earned the bronze state medal for their efforts.
Looking at the whole year, the entire program was successful, although maybe not as much as we all like. We all would like to see the locals win every game with ease, but the folks on the opposition have the same desires.
