Farm Accident

At about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, along with Lexington EMS, Tanglewood VFD, and B & M Ambulance from Giddings, were dispatched to Tanglewood after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a man whose leg had been caught in an auger.

Rick Murphree was working on Fred Rhodes’ property on CR 415, building a fence line, using an auger attached to a tractor. The auger was deep in the hole when his shoelace became tangled in the drive shaft of the equipment.

He was taken to Brackenridge Hospital, in Austin, where he was treated, received 20 stitches, and released later that afternoon.
