Lady Eagles Whack Lady Yoe 16-1

Clinch Playoffs
by Mike Organ

The Lady Eagles played one of their best games of the year when it counted the most. In a game they had to win to be in the state playoffs, Lexington stomped Cameron 16-1.

It started in the first inning. Lexington spotted the LadyYoe a run and then answered with three of their own in the bottom of the first, with their first at-bat. Bailey Reynolds doubled to lead off the Lexington offensive effort. Mackenzie Brown bunted to put runners on the corners. Kristen Boettcher lofted a sacrifice fly to score Reynolds with Brown moving to third. Courtney Robertson stroked a ground out to the right side, scoring Brown. Meghann Wrinkle then put an exclamation point on the inning with the first of her two home runs.

The Lady Eagles continued to score runs in their second turn with the sticks. Madison Bexley singled to lead off. Mariah Thornton walked to put runners on first and third. Reynolds bunted toward third; the Yoe third baseman created woe as the throw went deep to the outfield fence, allowing Thornton to score, and Reynolds ended up at third base. Boettcher singled home Reynolds, Robertson walked, and Wrinkle whacked her second home run; this time it was a three-run shot, as Lexington posted six runs in the inning.

Melanie Scantlin singled with Bexley moving up a base. Reynolds hit a grounder to shortstop that was booted. Brown singled to score Bexley, and Scantlin scored when they tried to keep her from advancing to third with a throw that was off the mark. Lexington was up 11-1 after three.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Eagles felt it was time to put Cameron on the bus back to Milam County. Wrinkle walked to lead off. Tayllor Lagrone singled, Bexley and Thornton walked, to load the bases. Scantlin singled to score Bexley after Wrinkle had scored. Reynolds then loaded the bus with Lady Yoe. Reynolds hit a three-run home run to end the game via the mercy rule.

Wrinkle pitched the entire game as Lexington returns to the playoffs after a one-year absence.
