Herbert Willie Billig
Funeral services for Herbert Willie Billig, 92, of Somerville, are set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Somerville with Rev. Corby Brizendine officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25th and from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mr. Billig died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Brazos Valley Hospice In-Patient Facility in Bryan.
Herbert was born July 16, 1920 in Sealy, Texas, the son of Edward Claude and Henrietta (Stuessel) Billig, and was baptized in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was married to Ruby Lee (Verm) Billig on January 30, 1949. Herbert worked as a heavy equipment operator for Burleson County and his spare time was spent as a farmer and rancher. He was married to Bernice Eldridge on May 25, 1990. Herbert was a member of First Baptist Church in Somerville.
Herbert is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Danny Edward Billig; brothers, Adolph Billig, Erwin Billig, and Harold Billig; sisters, Esther Wilke, Alice Cockrell, Mildred Kaechele, Helen Morgan and brothers-in-law, Gotlieb Wilke, Harold Cockrell, Marvin Kaechele, Paul Stephens, Loren Lee Morgan; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Bernice Billig of Somerville; his sons and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Shelia Billig of Lexington and Kevin Billig of Dime Box; a sister, Marie Stephens of Salem, Oregon; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Virginia Billig of Burnet; grandchildren, Joey and his wife Amy Billig of Giddings, Russell Billig of Stockdale, Lisa Romero of Seguin, Joy and her husband Robert Perry of Lexington; Krystal and her husband Kris Lilley of Lumberton; 8 great-grandchildren; daughterin law, Kathy Billig of Giddings, nephews, Shawn Eldridge and David Eldridge, both of Somerville; and Keith Eldridge of Snook; along with numerous other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
