Mackenzie Brown & Eriq Mitchell Region 2 Tennis Champs!

by Mike Organ

Mackenzie Brown became the first three-time state qualifier from Lexington. Brown combined with Kaelyn Blok her sophomore year, and then Mitchell the last two years, all in mixed doubles.

According to Coach Jarad Richards, earning the trip to the state tourney wasn’t easy. “Three of our four matches were split sets. It was like a roller coaster ride the whole Regional tourney. We (Brown and Mitchell) played really poor at times, and we looked unbeatable at times. Thankfully, it was more of the latter. We will play in the State tournament at A&M on Monday April 29th at 12:00pm.”

The following are their results from each of the Regional matches.

Results: Round 1 vs. Larison/Nichols from Brock - won 1-6, 6-4, 6-0; Round 2 vs. West/Crockett from Malakoff - won 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1; Round 3 vs. Davis/Jones from Van Alstyne - won 6-3, 6-3; and Championship vs. Leech/Martin from Whitney - won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
