We continue to write about our 2013-2014 Bluebonnet Books.
The Humming Room by Ellen Potter is a story about a twelveyear old orphan named Roo Fanshaw. Roo is sent to live with an uncle she never knew in a largely uninhabited mansion on Cough Rock Island, and discovers a wild river boy, an invalid cousin, and the mysteries of a hidden garden.
Glory Be by Augusta Scattergood is a memorable novel about family, friendship and choices that aren’t always easy.
Jangles: A Big Fish Story by David Shannon is a wonderful story about a fish who has never been caught. Father relates to his son the tale of his encounter and friendship with a gigantic trout whose enormous jaw is covered with so many lures and fish hooks that he jangles when he swims.
Walls Within Walls by Maureen Sherry introduces the Smithfork family. They discover clues to an old mystery behind the walls of their home in a Manhattan apartment building.
Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet presents a tribute to the creator of the giant balloons that fill the sky during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, tracing the work of artist Tony Sarg, whose innovative “upside-down puppet” creations have become the parade’s trademark.
Our final Bluebonnet book is Bake Sale by Sara Varon. This is a book written in the style of a cartoon. The characters are Cupcake, Eggplant and Turkish Delight, who is the most famous pastry chef in the world.
