Lady Eagles Fall to Rogers 4-2

by Mike Organ

Lexington lost to district leader Rogers 4-2 Tuesday afternoon. Lexington had a chance to tie the game in the fifth, but could not get the important hit with runners in scoring position. Rogers scored one run in the first inning on a single that was erred by a Lexington outfielder, allowing the hitter to get to second base. A stolen base and a sacrifice fly scored the first run. Rogers scored their other three runs in the fourth inning on two Lexington errors, a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and a single.

Lexington mounted a charge in the top of the fifth inning. Meghann Wrinkle led off with a walk. Wrinkle then stole second, and on to third when the throw from the catcher went into centerfield. Tayllor Lagrone’s ground out scored Wrinkle. Madison Bexley reached first on an error by the Rogers third baseman. Mariah Thornton singled, putting two runners on. Melanie Scantlin doubled to score Bexley with one out. Lexington could not get a hit to score the two remaining runners. A strkeout and a ground out ended the Lexington threat.

Lexington had another threat going in the sixth inning, with runners on first and second, with one out. A base running blunder on an infield fly became a double play and the threat was over.
