Lady Eagles Whitewash Academy 6-0

by Mike Organ

It took the Lady Eagles three innings to get their offense started. When it did start, it started with a bang, in the form of a Courtney Robertson home run with Bailey Reynolds on base. With Meghann Wrinkle keeping the Queens off base with a five-hit, one-walk pitching performance, Lexington upped its district record to 6-3 with an eye on the playoffs.

Reynolds led off the fourth inning with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and to third on Mackenzie Brown’s sacrifice bunt. Robertson then slammed a 2-2 pitch over the left centerfield fence to put the Lady Eagles in the lead.

Mariah Thornton reached first on an error with two out in the fifth. By the time Academy had finished throwing the ball around, Thornton was stepping on home plate.

Lexington scored three more in the sixth inning to put the game away. Brown reached on an error to start things off. Kristen Boettcher walked to put runners on first and second. Robertson hit an infield grounder to move the runners to second and third. Wrinkle laced a single to score both. Wrinkle went to third on Madison Bexley’s single, and scored on a single by Thornton.
