Lexington Tennis

by Mike Organ

The tennis team will be playing in the district tournament on April 8th and 9th in Taylor. “The team has worked really hard to this point and we expect to have a good showing again this year” said Coach Jarad Richards.

“Mackenzie Brown and Eriq Mitchell have won the Academy tournament, finished second in the Thrall and Granger tournaments (losing to the Thrall mixed doubles team both times), finished second in the Taylor tournament (losing to a Smithville team), and won the Lexington dual meet with Thorndale. Eriq and Mackenzie are seeded #1 for the upcoming district tournament. With the new alignment putting us in Region 2, who knows what can happen at the Regional tournament. However, we are still hopeful that Makenzie and Eriq will make a repeat trip to the state tournament.”, said Richards

“Our freshman mixed doubles team of Melanie Scantlin and Vance Kassner has shown much improvement throughout the year. Vance and Melanie played to the finals of consolation in the Academy tournament. They also have lost several close matches to district opponents, and I expect that the improvement they have made since those losses will give them a shot at upsetting some teams at the district meet”, said Richards.

Others playing tennis this year include Greg Willrich playing Varsity boys singles, Lisa Bierwagen and Destinee Gartman playing JV girls doubles, Jason Handrick playing JV boys singles, Nick McMahon playing JV boys singles, and Hunter Wilson and Jordan Exner playing JV boys doubles.
