Lady Eagles Jolted by Jarrell 4-1
However, with the loss to Jarrell, the Lady Eagles brought Cameron, a team Lexington had to rally in the seventh inning to beat, back into the picture.
Things started well for Lexington in the first at-bat. Mackenzie Brown reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on Kristin Boettcher’s bunt. Boettcher moved to second while the Jarrell defense tried to get Brown. Lexington had runners on second and third with one out, but could not get them home.
Jarrell got two runs in the second inning without the aid of a hit. A walk and a fielder’s choice got runners on first and second. A wild pitch got the runners into scoring position. An infield ground out got the first run across the plate. A missed infield pop fly gave the Lady Cougars their second run. Jarrell added another run in the third inning on an error, a fielder’s choice, and the first hit of the game for Jarrell. Jarrell’s fourth and final run came in the fourth inning on two errors.
Lexington mounted a small charge in the fifth. Courtney Robertson led off with a single. Meghann Wrinkle followed with a triple to the right field fence, both with two out. Lexington could not get Wrinkle home from first. Lexington only managed one more hit, Madison Bexley’s single to lead off the fifth inning.
Robertson pitched an excellent game, allowing only two hits and two walks to the victors. Lexington committed five errors to aid the Lady Cougars.
