Emilie Bertha Birnbaum
Funeral services for Emilie Birnbaum, 91 of Manheim, Texas, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, with Rev. Herb Keistman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Thursday, April 4, from 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Mrs. Birnbaum passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, April 1, 2013 at Country Care Plex in Giddings.
Emilie Bertha Woelfel Birnbaum was born on January 26, 1922 in Loebau, Texas to Louis Woelfel Sr. and Alma (Noack) Woelfel. She was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln on April 14, 1935. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:27 “Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.”
Emilie graduated from Giddings High School and taught school in Fedor and Lincoln for several years. She was united in marriage to Wilbert Birnbaum, Sr. on June 22, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
Emilie enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, canning and raising chickens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Lee Roy Birnbaum; her grandson, Jason Drosche; three brothers, Milton Woelfel, Clarence Woelfel & his wife, Doris and Randolph Woelfel; two sisters-in-law, Frances Baylor and Margaret Birnbaum and a brotherin law, Franklin Birnbaum.
Emilie is surived by her four children, Wilbert & Barbara Birnbaum Jr. of Lincoln, Virgil & Barbara Birnbaum of Manheim, Melba & Freddie Drosche of Loebau and Valerie & Gene Namken of Giddings; twelve grandchildren and their families, Anthony Birnbaum & his wife, Nancy of College Station and their children, Caroline, Chloe, Heather (Liz) & her husband, Danny, & their son, Samuel, Sara & her husband, Glen II, Hannah and Suzanna, Chris Birnbaum & his wife, Michelle of Giddings and their children, Nicole & Thomas, Willie Birnbaum & his wife, Kasey of Doak Springs and their children Jacob & Katie, Angie Alvarado & her husband, Ramon of Loebau, Joseph Drosche of Round Rock, Derek Drosche & his wife, Casey of Lexington and their children, Shannon, Katie and Madison, Sheila Shumaker & her husband, Thad of Temple and their children, Koe & Trae, Mimi Ketchbaw & her husband Joaquin of Austin and their children Thomas & Kiera, Michael Birnbaum & his wife, Molly of Austin and their son, Ty, Ashley Birnbaum of Smithville and her son, Xavier, Amber & Seth Spacek of Giddings and their children, Rayghan & Ashby and Casey Namken & his wife, Louise of Manheim and their children, Kennedi & Maddox; sisters, Alice “Tootsie” Fischer & her husband, Noah of Giddings, Vernie Arldt & her husband, E.A. of Paige, Ruth Wachsmann & her husband Harry of Lincoln, Lorine “Toddie” Patschke & her husband, Monroe of Lincoln and Ellen “Johnnie” Schulze & her husband, Melvin of Giddings; brother, Louis “Sam” Woelfel Jr. & his wife, Novalene of Thorndale; sisters-in-law, Mildred Woelfel of Manheim, Marilyn Woelfel of Fedor and Dorothy Birnbaum of Fedor; brothers-in-law, Isdell Birnbaum & his wife, Olivia of Spring, Allen Birnbaum & his wife, Alice of Manheim and Bob Baylor & his wife, Gertrude of Huntsville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Anthony Birnbaum, Chris Birnbaum, Willie Birnbaum, Joey Drosche, Derek Drosche, Casey Namken and Michael Birnbaum.
Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice.
