Just a Thought.......
As I live through the seasons at the Rock House, I continue to be surprised by the variety of flowers that suddenly bloom. They are as beautiful as they are varied and I often think of those who planted them.
One thought which keeps returning is that they had no idea I would ever see the marvelous color canvas of beauty which they had created. Still, they planted.
I believe they created that space as part of their overall faith that the world in which we find ourselves, and the God who created us, calls out to us to make our corner of the universe just a bit better, a bit nicer, a bit more gorgeous than when we found it.
Not everyone feels that way. As I drive around Lexington, I see many places whose clutter suggests that the folks inside think of this world as their personal dumping ground. “Use it up and move on” seems to be their motto. Or, perhaps, “someone else can clean it up”.
The contrast always saddens me. I am certain that my home hosts, now long since moved to the next world, would be sorry, too. But, they, like me, would be comforted knowing that they had done the right thing, the best thing.
Something to think about the next time you are wondering if it is worth the trouble to plant those flowers.
