Lady Eagles’ Rally Nips Cameron

by Mike Organ

Going into their last at-bat, Lexington trailed Cameron 3-1. Lexington rallied to score four runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game.

Meghann Wrinkle led off with a walk. Tayllor Lagrone followed with a solid single up the middle. The Yoe centerfielder failed to stop the ball as Wrinkle scored and Lagrone cruised into third base with the tying run. Mariah Thornton walked after a bunt attempt failed. Melanie Scantlin hit a squibber to third base. The Yoe third baseman grabbed the ball, faked a thrown to first and turned around to tag the Eagle runner out. With two runners on base, Bailey Reynolds slammed a double in the alley to score the tying and winning runs. A passed ball on the Yoe catcher allowed Reynolds to score with the fourth run.

Lexington scored their first run in the fifth inning. Lagrone led off with a single. Thornton singled and along with an error got Lagrone across home plate.

Wrinkle pitched the entire game to get the win. She gave up seven hits as the Lady Eagles earned their fifth district win with the victory.
