Lady Eagles Flush Florence 12-0

by Mike Organ

Lexington cruised to a 12-0 win over Florence Tuesday afternoon. Meghann Wrinkle pitched a nice game and the Lady Eagle offense went to town in the truncated game. Lexington scored three in the first, four in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the top of the fifth in a game that ended early, due to the mercy rule.

Mackenzie Brown started the first inning offensive with a bunt single. Wrinkle followed with a run scoring double and Tayllor Lagrone hit a gapper that rolled to the fence while she rolled around the bases for two more runs.

Courtney Robertson walked to start off the third inning offensive. Wrinkle singled and Lagrone singled to plate Robertson. After a wild pitch, Mariah Thornton singled home two more runs. Thornton moved all the way around the bases, as the ball rolled past the right fielder to the fence.

Bailey Reynolds led off the Lexington fourth with a single. Brown bunted safely and Courtney Robertson reached on an error by the third baseman. Wrinkle forced Reynolds at home for the first out. In the process, two runs scored on an error by the third baseman. Wrinkle ended up at third. Lagrone singled home Wrinkle, and Wrinkle later scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Thornton. The final run was the result of a double by Reynolds and a single by Brown.

Wrinkle allowed the Lady Buffs only one single in the fourth inning. Wrinkle struck out ten of the 15 outs Florence had in the game.
