Superintendent’s Corner

Frances M. McArthur,
PhD., Superintendent of Schools, Lexington ISD

Our dedicated staff has had their eyes on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams all year. Knowing the high stakes the state has put on student performance of these exams, our teachers have been focused on what research clearly shows to be the biggest difference makers in student success: Teaching an aligned curriculum that emphasizes the appropriate concepts at the appropriate times; and using a variety of brain compatible instructional strategies in an effort to get students involved in the curriculum. Next week our 4th and 7th grade students will be taking the STAAR Writing Assessments, 5th and 8th grade students will be taking the STAAR Mathematics tests, and our high school students will be taking the English I and III End of Course Exams.

I also want to thank our parents who, along with our staff, have encouraged our students to work hard at their schoolwork. Thank you to those parents who have stayed up late, after a long day at work, to help your children with homework. Average students, who work hard and persist, out perform child prodigies who lack persistence. In other words, hard work matters most! Please encourage your children to get to bed early and be well rested for these assessments next week.
