Lee Co Jr. Livestock Show Raises Over Half a Million $$$!

PHOTO BY KATIE HALL. “The sale was awesome!” That’s what Kerry Bexley said following last Saturday’s sale at the Lee County Jr. Livestock Show. Bidders spent $542,919 as they purchased many of the entries in this year’s event. Last year’s show, also a record-setter, raised over $418,000.

Betty Wolf said several records were set this year, including those for Grand and Reserve Champion hogs, goats and lambs. This year’s Grand Champion Commercial Heifers-Bred, also set a record, earning $8,250 over the previous record of $8,000.

This year’s Grand Champion hog sold for $8,250. The former record was $7,750; the Grand Champion lamb sold for $10,000 (former record $6,200); and the Grand Champion goat went for $5,000 (former record $3,750).

The big winner this year was Caroline Heller, Lexington Jr. FFA, who had the Grand Champion Steer, which sold for $10,000 to Pumpco in Giddings. Caroline’s brother, Henry, won the Reserve Grand Champion Steer last year.

Other winners included Kayla Boettcher, a member of the Lexington Jr. FFA, who had the Reserve Champion Steer. Clay Boettcher, Lexington Jr. FFA, had the Grand Champion Hog. Trenton Williams, Giddings FFA, had the Reserve Champion Hog. Tyler Robertson, Lincoln 4H, had the Reserve Champion Lamb. Whitney Whitsel, Dime Box 4H, had the Grand Champion Goat. Katelyn Iselt, Lexington Jr. FFA, had the Reserve Champion Goat. Aubrey Heller, Lexington 4H won Grand Champion Heifers – Bred. Jordan Marek, NWLC 4H won Reserve Champion Commercial Heifers. Trent Jatzlau, Dime Box 4H, won Grand Champion Commercial Heifers – Open. Cole Mertink, Serbin 4H, won Reserve Champion Commercial Heifers – Open. Bradly Schautschick, Giddings FFA, won Grand Champion Broilers. Nathanael Clifford won Reserve Champion Broilers. Madison Callas, Lexington 4H, won Grand Champion Rabbits. Paige Havel, Serbin 4H, won Reserve Champion Rabbits. Elly Mersiovsky, Serbin 4H, won Grand Champion Regular Cake. Chase Hibbeler, Lexington FFA, won Reserve Champion Regular Cake. Madeleine Boriack, Lincoln 4H, won Grand Champion Decorated Cake, and Sara Matejcek, Lincoln 4H, won Reserve Champion Decorated Cake.
