Rogers Nips Lady Eagles 3-1

Lexington took an early 1-0 lead against defending district champion Rogers. Lexington held Rogers at bay until the top of the sixth inning, when the black clad Eagles punched across two runs. Rogers got another run in the top of the seventh.

Courtney Robertson led off the second inning with a single. Meghann Wrinkle followed with a single, pushing Robertson to third. Wrinkle was thrown out trying to follow up Robertson. Tayllor Lagrone had an infield single, with Robertson holding at third. Mariah Thornton had a squeeze bunt, scoring Robertson for Lexington’s only run.

Rogers’ two runs in the sixth came on a lead-off triple and a Lexington error. The second run came when the erred runner scored on a single. In the seventh, the Rogers’ run came on a lead-off single, two stolen bases, and a ground out.

Robertson pitched an excellent game, giving up just seven well spaced hits, and one walk. Of Rogers’ three runs, only one was earned. Lexington is now 2-2 in the district race.
