Irene Esther Fischer

June5,1931-March14,2013

Funeral services for Irene Fischer, 81 of Giddings, were held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner & Rev. Wilbern Michalk officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Irene Esther Weiser Fischer was born on June 5, 1931 in Giddings, Texas to Karl Otto & Clara Louise (Urban) Weiser. She was baptized on June 7, 1931 and confirmed on March 25, 1945 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas by Rev. Herman Schmidt. Her confirmation verse was Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”. Irene attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin. She was united in marriage to Martin E. Fischer on May 2, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. Paul Eifert. Their union was blessed with four children, Paul, Mary Beth, Judy and Geneva.

Irene was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Prayer Circle. Irene & Martin were custodians for many years at First National Bank in Giddings and Irene had also worked as the cook at the Immanuel Lutheran Early Childhood Center. She enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework and watching her grandkids and great grandkids. Her family will always cherish the hand embroidered cup towels she gave each of them as wedding shower gifts.

Mrs. Fischer passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, March 14, 2013 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Karl & Clara Weiser; her husband, Martin in 1986; her grandson, Kyle Matthijetz; her great grandson, Riley Key; her sister, Dorothy Kurio; her brother, Edgar Weiser and her parents-inlaw, Emil & Selma Fischer.

She is survived by her four children, Paul & Jolene Fischer, Mary Beth Fischer, Judy & David Matthijetz and Geneva & Gene Medack all of Giddings; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, Brian & Tammy Fischer of Ledbetter and their children, Jack & Sydney, David & Gina Fischer of Giddings and their daughters, Amanda & Emily, Jason & Chrissy Fischer of San Marcos & their children, Lyndon & Anna, Andrea & Paul Rust of Pflugerville & their daughter, Vivian Preuss, Aaron & Kory Matthijetz of Lexington & their son, Jackson, Tyler & Kristina Matthijetz of Giddings, Courtney & Brandon King of Ocean Springs, MS & their son, Easton, Casey Medack of Denver, CO and Madi Medack of Giddings; sister, Delores Pietsch of Gatesville; brother and sisterin law, Alton & Paula Weiser of Giddings; brother-in-law, Marvin Kurio of Serbin; sister-in-law, Laverne Weiser of Giddings, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Brian Fischer, David Fischer, Jason Fischer, Aaron Matthijetz, Tyler Matthijetz, Paul Rust, Casey Medack and Brandon King.

Memorials may be made Lutheran World Relief or the Missions Fund at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 North Grimes, Giddings, Texas 78942 or the charity of one’s choice.
