Lady Eagles Blast Jarrell 13-3
The Lady Eagles opened the 2013 district race with a 13-3 win over Jarrell Tuesday night, March 5. The Lady Eagles used the twohit pitching of Courtney Robertson and the big bats of Tayllor Lagrone and Meghann Wrinkle for the win.
Jarrell got two unearned runs in the top of the first inning on two Lexington errors and a double, to plate the runs. Lexington answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Bailey Reynolds reached on an error to lead off. Mackenzie Brown laid a perfect bunt for a hit. Robertson walked to load the bases. Meghann Wrinkle hit a fly ball to left center field. Just as the ball hit the left fielder’s glove, the centerfielder ran into her, causing the ball to drop to the ground. Two runs scored on the fiasco. Lagrone followed with a triple to plate two more runs. Madison Bexley singled Lagrone home for the fifth run.
The final six runs came in the bottom of the fifth and final inning. Brown singled, Kristen Boettcher singled, Wrinkle singled two home, Lagrone reached on an error, Bexley did the same, Alyssa Mireles walked, and Reynolds singled, as six runs crossed the plate.
Robertson pitched the entire game, allowing no earned runs and striking out five. She gave up only two hits to the Lady Cougars.
