Poster Contest Receives Record Number of Entries

The annual Poster Contest for the Lee County Junior Livestock Show received a huge response this year with over 575 entries received. The Livestock Show is March 20 - 24.

The contest, sponsored by Bluebonnet Electric and coordinated by the Lee County office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, was open to all youth of Lee County with competition in three different age categories. The 1st Place winners in each category will receive a cash prize.

This year’s winners are: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: 1st Place - Jose Leyva, 2nd Grade, Giddings Elementary; 2nd Place - Lilianna Biar, Kindergarten, Giddings Elementary; 3rd Place - Joseph Sifuentes, Kindergarten, Giddings Elementary.

3rd Grade - 5th Grade: 1st Place - Lacy Marburger, 3rd Grade, Giddings Elementary; 2nd Place - Ernesto Rodriguez, 3rd Grade, Giddings Elementary; 3rd Place - Edith Gonzalez, 3rd Grade, Giddings Elementary

6th Grade- 8th Grade: 1st Place - Teyani Wilkes, 7th Grade, Lexington Middle; 2nd Place - Courtney Strain, 8th Grade, Lexington Middle; 3rd Place - Heather Exner, 7th Grade, Lexington Middle.

County Extension Agent and contest coordinator, Tonya Poncik, said, “The success of this contest is greatly attributed to our area school art teachers. Students are introduced, not just to Livestock Competition, but to the use of art in advertising.”

Winning Poster entries will be on display March 21 - 23, in the Exhibit Hall at the Lee County Junior Livestock Show, located west of Giddings on Hwy 290.
