Fayette County Genealogical Society to Meet on March 23

The next meeting for the Fayette County Genealogical Society will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room in the Fayette Heritage Library on South Jefferson Street in La Grange, Texas.

Connie Sneed, president of the society, will be presenting a Power Point tutorial presentation, “Scanners for Genealogy”, followed by a “hands-on” demonstration of three different types of scanners - a small handheld portable scanner, the Flip-Pal and a standard desktop model. Scanners are invaluable tools for genealogists, allowing documents and photos to be scanned, organized and stored, as well as shared with family, friends and other genealogists. Digitized documents and photos are easily retrievable and accessible, versus finding hard copies in boxes and files.

Because of her interest in genealogy, not only with her own personal family for over 20 years, but also with assisting others with their family research, Mrs. Sneed was instrumental in helping to organize the local genealogical society. She is also a member of the Fayette County Historical Commission and is very interested in local history. In addition, she is currently teaching computer classes to the public in La Grange.

Also, Aileen Loehr with the Fayette County Record, who was unable to attend the last meeting to discuss the family history book that will be published by the Record, will be in attendance at this meeting to present the guidelines for the family histories for the book.

The genealogical society meets monthly except in June and July, and the public is invited to all meetings.
