Lady Eagles Top Killeen Ellison 10-9

by Mike Organ

Killeen Ellison jumped out to a quick start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Lexington did not rattle, but battled back, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Courtney Robertson led off the Lexington second with a home run over the centerfield fence just under the scoreboard. The big blast energized the rest of the Lady Eagle bats. Mariah Thornton reached on an error to follow the homer. Tayllor Lagrone doubled, followed by another double by Melanie Scantlin. Alyssa Mireles reached on an error and Meghann Wrinkle singled to crowd the bases. Kristen Boettcher followed with a double, to score the sixth Lexington run of the inning, as they took a lead they would not relinquish.

Lexington lit up the scoreboard with three more runs in the fourth. Bailey Reynolds singled, Wrinkle walked, Boettcher singled to load the bases. Robertson delivered two runs with a single. Boettcher scored on Mariah Thornton’s ground out to short.

Ellison scored a run in the top of the sixth and Lexington answered with a run that proved to be the winning run. Boettcher reached on an error by the left fielder. She moved into scoring position on Robertson’s infield out. Thornton delivered the run with a single.

Ellison rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh. The runs came on an error, two walks, a bases loaded double, and another double.

Wrinkle pitched the entire game for the Lady Eagles. Of the nine runs Ellison scored, only two were earned. The rest were unearned runs, meaning they came on hits after a normal third out would have been recorded.
