Blinn seeks firm to develop master Brazos County facilities plan
Blinn College will consider firms to develop a master facilities plan for its Brazos County campuses and will accept bids for improvements to Memorial Hall on its Brenham campus, the Board of Trustees determined during its regular meeting Tuesday night.
The board authorized the administration to advertise, receive qualification statements and seek an architectural firm to develop a master plan for the Brazos County campuses. Blinn’s Bryan campus has experienced tremendous growth in recent years as enrollment has climbed by 2,080 students over the past six years.
A facilities master plan would create a process for the continuous planning of educational facilities, identify alternatives and priorities in the allocation of facility resources and involve college and community stakeholders in the decisionmaking process. Blinn last updated its master plan for the Bryan campus in 2002.
The board also authorized the administration to seek and award bids for interior improvements to Memorial Hall and repair and resurface the adjacent parking lots. Memorial Hall is currently closed, but will be reopened for the Fall semester. The improvements are estimated to cost between $150,000 and $200,000.
In other action, the board approved a request for proposal for a wide area network connection that would increase the bandwidth on Blinn’s Schulenburg and Sealy campuses. The change would triple each campus’ total bandwidth.
The board approved new housing charges for the 2013-14 school year that will generate an additional $155,350, including $50,000 generated by bringing Memorial Hall back online. Blinn’s Brenham campus will have 1,216 available rooms in 2013-14, more than any other two-year college in the state.
The possible addition of men’s and women’s golf programs on the Brenham campus was tabled.
