Local Landowner and Businessman Hosts Event for Wounded Warriors
Hope For The Warriors® and Quail Hunt Dime Box (QuailHuntDimeBox.com) hosted a one day pheasant hunting trip for nine wounded and veteran service members last Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the Dismukes Ranch in Dime Box. Hope For The Warriors® is a national nonprofit organization that assists combat wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen.
Hosting the event was Mike Schumann, owner of Quail Hunt Dime Box (QuailHuntDimebox.com), and the son of Carol Dismukes, retired Lee County Clerk. Schumann involved all facets of the local community in this adventure for the veterans, including Katie Hall from Tanglewood, who was the photographer for the event, Lee County area girl and boy scout troops, along with 4-H youth, who presented the colors and helped with the services provided the veterans. In addition to the hands-on activities of the young people involved, local citizens, businesses, and clients of Quail Hunt Dime Box provided donations and sponsorships to benefit the wounded veterans who participated.
Schumann said, “This event is part of Hope For The Warriors® Outdoor Adventures Program, which provides adaptive opportunities for wounded heroes to participate in sporting activities in the great outdoors. Service members, who previously embraced an outdoorsman lifestyle, as well as those new to wilderness sports, are introduced to recreational opportunities on their road to recovery and we are proud to be a part of that journey for them.”
“Hope For The Warriors® believes that the best way to restore our service members is by returning them to the sports and activities that they have always loved,” Lt Col. Lew Deal, USMC (Ret.), Hope For The Warriors® Outdoor Adventures Director said.
The mission of Hope For The Warriors® is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
