The Eagles wound up basketball season Tuesday night, a week ago. The softball team opened their season in Thorndale. The baseball team scrimmaged last Tuesday, and opens their season on the 19th in Navasota. The spring sports glut is starting. It won’t be long before track meets will be run, also. Oh, and there is golf and tennis to follow.
The Austin-American sports writers are turning on UT. They are beginning to question the Longhorn Network, that virtually no one is watching. With the downturn in their football and basketball teams, the top athletes are going somewhere else. Has DeLoss Dodds’corporate greed not only destroyed the Big XII conference, but is it also a major contributor in the athletic downfall?
The Aggies, on the other hand, are getting a large number of recruits, with Johnny Football and a large part of the offensive line returning. Athletes think there may be a national championship in the Ag’s future. Everybody wants a big ring.
The NFL owners are breaking some plates. Some of the athletes that were scheduled to make 5-9 million dollars are getting let go with years left on their contracts. Business is business though, so the players are not surprised. I wonder who Jerry Jones will cut loose from the Cowboys.
